The goal of this picture was to take the same picture, and capture two different periods of time. I like the idea of growing-up, and how your perspective changes so much as time passes. I did it for a polykarbon contest, and it probably took be about 15h or so. Thanks for viewing!

In the middle of doing this picture, my friend accidently broke my 9.5" laptop, and I switched to a 24" imac. I was saving up for a new computer, but I didn't expect the switch to be this soon! Well, with this picture I tried to use proper technique. I took proper photos myself to use as refs, and sketched everything out first. Wow, technique makes a big difference! I took a little art break last month, and I was really anxious to get back into the groove of things for June. I've been trying to work on how to properly balance colour and shapes, and maybe I'm finally making some progress... (well hope so at least)

I really tried to change the way I go about constructing my images with this picture. Often, I think I don't properly construct the initial image, and this comes though with the finished picture. I've wanted to do this picture for a while now, it comes from a song:

Faraway Tom

When the calendar brings in the cuckoo
And the summer comes following on
And the thin mists of day see him running away
And they know him as Faraway Tom

The earth is his bed and his pillow
And his sheets are the clothes he has on
He spends all afternoon hunting the moon
Till it rises for Faraway Tom

He sees the fox leaving his hollow
And he know where the badger is gone
He watches the fawn in the sheltering thorn
But they don't see old Faraway Tom

He knows nothing of letters or learning
And of manners and such he has none
He numbers the seasons on finger and toes
As they pass over Faraway Tom

I did half of it with painter, half with photoshop with about 30h. I really have been trying to create work with a bit more umph, and I hope that shows a little. I would love lots of feed back and critiques! Thanks for viewing!!!

I wanted to work on skin tones and natural backgrounds. It seems like I always end up doing portraits though, I just love to do them so much. So here's my forest lady! I asked my mom what she thought of my picture and she said that it looked like she rolled out of a cave with messy hair and bugs all over her, hahaha.

After trying to fix the sholder for hours and hours, I really give up on trying to make it look perfect for now. This is the Fox Lady, she's a kinda elusive character I love and have been working on for several years now, or maybe she has been working on me? This pic took a frustratingly long time, and it's taken several forms before I decided on this one. I wanted to make a story book picture that was not to freaking cheezy and look like it belonged on a romance novel. I still think it's a little cheezy, but I can't bare to change it again!

I started this picture last year and didn't have the guts or patience to complete it to its fullest. Alas, I think it's finally done to the point where I'm satisfied. Originally I wanted it to be Sedna, a sea goddess, but she seems to have taken the form of a fish mermaid instead. This picture took me forever, and I never thought I could learn so much from drawing a single picture. If you have any comments or suggestions I'd love to hear them!

This really turned out much creepier then I intended, hahahaha. I had two inspirations for this illustration, I kinda just mashed them both together:
1) I love stories about shape shifting creatures, and this one's a raven. Ravens are excellent at divination, but you can't trust them because they're tricksters who only think of themselves. I heard they make really bad spirit helpers for the same reason, hahaha.

2) My other inspiration is from the Neko Case song "Hold on, Hold on." Mainly the first two lines, "The most tender place in my heart is for strangers. I know it's unkind but my own blood is much too dangerous."

I wanted to do something not fantasy for a change. What's better then girls with guns? It was really fun to draw, I spent about 20h on it total. My reference was a pic in the April 2009 Imagine FX mag CD.
